The Many Colors of the SkyIn 2002 I bought my first digital camera. Over the years I captured some amazing and rare weather and storm cloud pictures. It is difficult to believe these colors occur in nature, but only one of these photos was touched up. The rest are in their orginal state, taken from our house or in our neighborhood.

Taken after a storm passed to our north. Pure gold in color. I call it "Heavenly".

A thunderstorm at sunset. I cannot fathom what caused this blood-red color.

One thing my Daddy taught me was "green means hail". No joking, this one caused quarter-sized hail.

One of the closest lightening pictures I've ever taken. I could feel the heat on my forearms as I held the camera to my face. I went directly in after this shot!

Once-in-a-lifetime deep violet sky. Again, caused by a thunderstorm at sunset.

This is my only enhanced shot. This was taken on a bitter, bitter cold morning at sunrise. There really were that many different colors. I only brightened them up.

Absolutely black sky to the west. A doozy rolled in a few minutes later.

Probably my best lightning shot to date. I find lightning easiest to photograph as storms are moving away to the east and the sky has cleared behind me.

Unbelievable. This massive squall line moved in and brought with it some amazing colors. I remember taking this from Sheridan's bedroom window (we removed the screen just for this shot) on the 2nd floor.

A deep orange caused by an approaching storm that kind of fizzled. It at least had the audacity to look like this before the sun went down.
These are so amazing! Fantastic. Love how each pic is a different color. We do get some crazy weather in KS.
