While digging in the bed you see above, I pried up more tools like the ones a few posts down. It is becoming a bit obsessive, these items of old. This time I pulled up a few lengths of barbed-wire fencing that fell apart with no effort, and a large crow-bar type item with a lot of heft to it. There were also many, many pieces of glass. But I'm not talking regular glass; this stuff was about 1/4 inch thick - there were several green pieces (like in the picture) and several more clear pieces. I'm sure they were from large bottles or jugs.
All this was found right beneath that tree we cut down. The interesting part of this find was that the tools were actually located under tree roots so thick we needed a power saw to remove them, meaning they were about 10-12 inches down. My friend at Earl May said they are probably quite old, maybe nearing 100 years or more, based on the depth they were buried. But who really knows?
