A Little Cajun Cookin'
(Heavy on the Southern Accent with a little Backwoods Hick mixed in)

We wanted to do somethin' totally different for dinner. It gets old doin' the same old thing all the time. So I decided on Creole food, though we kept spice to a minimum as to not offend our mild Midwest tastebuds.
Phil bought shrimp, crab, and corn-on-the-cob. I threw it all in one pot with Cajun seasonin', salt, and lemons. Then I served it up with bread and butter on the side. And a surprisingly good dry, but fruity, Chardonnay for those of legal age. Which was two of us. There was nothin' left but cobs, shells, and empty claws at the end.

During the cookin' process I explained Southern Louisiana cookin' and Cajun food to the kids. Then we listened to DMB sing "Alligator Pie" and "Down on the Bayou" to get us in the mood.

Crab boiled for 5 minutes, shrimp for just a few. I put the corn in for 10 minutes total.

After drainin' the water I slapped the whole mess in the middle of the table.

The Frick Family Five goin' for it. Sheridan was tryin' so hard to break the crab legs on her own. We capped the night off with frozen custard. Then returned to our slightly more civilized suburban lifestyle.
